Inspiration

Dec 7 2015 | by Kristina Zuzzio, Esthetician, Montclair, NJ

Some of us might remember the Jesse Spano freak-out episode of Saved By the Bell where she is hysterical and cries out the words, "No time! There's never any time! I'll never have time to study! I'll never get in Stanford!," and so she goes on and on until she emotionally breaks down and sobs in Zack Morris's arms. I can't help, like most of you, feeling this way during the holiday season.

Just a few quotes that show the true nature of Mom...

"A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." ~Tenneva Jordan

"Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love."  ~Mildred B. Vermont

"A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after."  ~Peter De Vries

"Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever."  ~Author Unknown

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother."

Since the latest cold front has now made it's way across our nation, we are all bundled up and feeling the 'holiday spirit' a little more.  May we suggest some (Click>) Hot Apple Cider?  Using just a few simple ingredients, you can warm up your family with this delicious, flavorful drink.

I recently went to New Zealand, and while I normally travel alone, for this trip, I took a friend. My friend was fanatic about taking pictures of the scenery, and to be fair, it is one of the most beautiful countries that I have ever visited. It begs to be remembered, so it’s not hard to want to capture every shade of blue and green that emanates from the land. But his inability to live in the present became a huge frustration for me.

We’re 2.5 weeks into the New Year, and our New Year’s resolutions are going strong. Or more than likely, they’re not. Studies show that, of those who actually intend to work out as part of their New Year’s resolutions, many will abandon their workout routines by mid-January. Half will quit by June. Only 1 in 8 people will keep their New Year’s resolution (whatever it may be) for the entire year.

However, just because you’ve slipped two weeks into the year, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up hope. Here are some tips to keep you moving forward.

1. Take time for quiet daily. Yes, there is much that needs to get done. Once you maintain a habit of being quiet either to contemplate, pray, or meditate, you will be amazed how much more efficiently you will perform your tasks, duties and projects.
2. Treat yourself with as much care, if not more, than you treat others. Once you master caring for yourself, caring for others will become effortless and spring from the heart, instead of from duty.

Fitness vs. Health

Ask us, we know this one by “heart”—no pun intended.  First, let’s define both words: Fitness is the physical ability of your body to perform an athletic activity.  Health is the state in which all the systems of the body—nervous, muscular, skeletal, circulatory, digestive, lymphatic, hormonal, etc. are working optimally and are working together.  Everyone’s goal should be to become not just fit, but healthy.

Last night I had the privilege of being in community with 200+ veterans and their spouses at a Dining Out event and was deeply touched by the guest speaker who was a veteran himself as well as the father of a son who served.  I, like the majority of Americans, have never been caught in a crossfire of any kind thanks to those who do fight for our country. His message was quite simple.  Although there is the promise of two paychecks a month plus some benefits, it is a true act of patriotism to take the oath.  A heart-felt thank you to those who have served and are currently serving.
